Carlson specializes in Commercial, Industrial and Multi-Unit Residential project execution.

We currently have a need for a Director of Operations based out of our Edmonton office!  Reporting to our General Manager/Vice President of Project Development, you will lead and direct our full Operations team; consisting of Project Managers, Project Coordinators and Administrators, Superintendents, Site Supervisors, Foremen, Carpenters and Labourers.  You will ensure Carlson construction projects are managed to completion in the commercial, industrial and multi-unit residential sectors in our Alberta region.  You will work closely with our Project Development, Finance and Human Resources Teams to ensure you are fully supported.  Carlson is proud to have an especially collaborative team and we’re looking forward to adding to this knowledge and experience!  We take pride in our commitment to reasonably maintained volumes with proven industry-best team members and longstanding, valued Clients.  We are seeking an individual who is a senior level Operations Leader in the Construction Management sector.  The chosen candidate will lead by example and has a proven track record.

The Director of Operations will:

  • Oversee all Operations activities both in the office and onsite for both commercial, industrial and multi-family residential projects
  • Lead, direct and coach all direct reports in their performance
  • Ensure company profitability is maintained and delivered upon
  • Maintain and manage cash flow, and where needed assist Project Managers in collection of accounts receivables
  • Will attain client, company and contractual expectations on budget, quality, schedule and safety
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, sub-trades and suppliers
  • Direct the Safety component as it relates to our business and carious legal standards
  • Develop and maintain safety standard’s as it relates to sites and office and various legal standards
  • Guide the work of Superintendents, Site Supervisors, Project Managers, Coordinators, Administrators to ensure all jobs are running on time and on budget
  • Ensure team cohesiveness for field and office teams
  • Proactively address, identify and resolve issues and problems before they occur
  • Frequent and strong communication with all other company departments (Project Development, Finance, Human Resources and Executive Team)
  • Negotiate and manage contract services requirements
  • Communicate insurance and bonding requirements and maintain relationships with brokers
  • Manage client inquiries and feedback expeditiously
  • Maintain strong communication with all stakeholders, internal and external
  • Provide critical reporting to Leadership team


  • Eng., CET, or similar designation or equivalent experience and/or education
  • 10+ years of relevant experience Director of Operations, in the commercial and/or institutional construction sectors.
  • Achievement of great successful track record on multi-million dollar projects, within the General Contracting and/or Construction Management sectors
  • Ability to lead and manage direct reports
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to detail are a must.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are required.
