Setting the stage: We completed construction on this multi-phased project in 1989. The project, which was an architecturally ingenious combination of finishes spanned 13 years and began with construction on the Shoctor Theatre, Rice Theatre and Zeidler Hall. Phase 2 of the project featured a Main Level Winter Garden and 686 seat Thrust Stage Theatre. The project was completed with an addition to the “backstage” and offices as well as a 2-storey carpentry shop expansion and three drama classrooms.
Special features included a 9.2 m (30ft.) slate faced waterfall, reflecting ponds, exposed aggregate walkways and built up acoustical floors. Work also entailed a main floor pedway to Canada Place and a LRT connection to Churchill Station.
