We have an opportunity for a Business Development Manager in our Edmonton office! As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and strategic Business Development Manager to help expand our market presence and drive new opportunities.
Carlson specializes in Commercial, Light Industrial and Multi-Unit Residential project execution.
The role of the Business Development Manager is driving revenue growth, building strategic partnerships, and strengthening Carlson Construction’s market position. This individual will lead new business initiatives, develop client relationships, and collaborate across teams to ensure successful project acquisition and execution.
Specifically, the key responsibilities of the Project Manager are:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, research, and market analysis
- Develop tailored strategies to engage prospective clients
- Lead presentations and pitches aligned with client needs
- Support Indigenous partnership opportunities with a culturally respectful approach
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and economic conditions
- Review tender platforms (e.g., MERX, APC, BuildWorks, etc.) daily to identify opportunities
- Collaborate with leadership to prioritize pursuits and refine market positioning
- Provide insights to support strategic decision-making
- Partner with the President and Chief Commercial Officer and internal teams on strategic initiatives
- Work closely with marketing to develop targeted campaigns
- Collaborate with estimating and project development teams to ensure accurate, competitive proposals
- Ensure seamless transition from business development to operations
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships
- Act as a primary client liaison throughout project development
- Identify opportunities to expand and retain client accounts
- Lead proposal development, ensuring accuracy and alignment with client needs
- Evaluate bid opportunities and recommend go/no-go decisions
- Negotiate contracts and resolve issues while maintaining positive client relationships
- Represent Carlson Construction at industry events, trade shows, and client functions
- Develop strategic partnerships within construction and real estate sectors
- Strengthen brand visibility and market presence
- Track KPIs such as revenue growth, win rates, and client acquisition
- Maintain accurate forecasts and provide updates to senior leadership
- Manage CRM system to track pipeline and client interactions
- Use data analytics to optimize sales strategy and prioritize opportunities
- Promote Carlson Construction’s values, reputation, and commitment to excellence in all interactions
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5+ years of business development or sales experience, preferably in construction or project-based industries
- Experience with CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Relevant certifications in sales, business development, or project management are an asset
