We have an amazing opportunity for an Accounting Manager in our Edmonton office!  The Accounting Manager  will guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.  The Accounting Manager will protect Carlson assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls, monitor and confirm financial performance by providing relevant timely information to senior management.

Specifically, the Accounting Manager will:

  •  Manage full cycle accounting.
  • Oversee accounts payable and review invoices, required documents and payments to vendors.
  • Manage accounts receivable, post cash receipts and follow up with Project Managers and customers to make sure payment is received in a timely manner.
  • Manage cash flow and inform senior management on the cash position.
  • Provide status of financial condition.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, journal entries and reconciliations for all accounts.
  • Review payroll reports.
  • Assist/cover bi-weekly payroll processing as required.
  • Maintain fixed asset records – Capital Asset Continuity Schedule.
  • Corporate credit card management and support.
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
  • Work with external stakeholders to provide required reports. Provide quarterly reports to bonding company.
  • Responsible for the insurance renewal process.
  • Responsible for annual renewals for corporate documents, vehicle registrations etc.
  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
  • Calculate year over year and report significant issues to management.
  • Provide project status reports to management.
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Support Senior Management with workflow process improvement and pursuing special projects.
  • Ensure the finance team members meet all financial reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare and process statutory filings and remittances.
  • ERP system maintenance in relation to Finance and Operations.
  • Provide ERP training to other staff members as required.
  • Assist Operations staff with day to day requests, help them understand cost reports and work with the team to make sure all processes are being followed.
  • Meet month-end deadline.
  • Publish monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end review files for outside auditors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

 Candidate must be working towards Accounting Degree or CPA Program.

  • 2+ years similar accounting experience in a Construction Management capacity.
  • Outstanding leadership skills, ready to mentor and coach direct reports.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and attention to details are a must.
  • Sound organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Sage Timberline and Vista Viewpoint in a Construction Management capacity would be an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
