EPCOR, one of our long-time heavy industrial construction clients, hired Carlson to build concrete containment pits at EPCOR’s Victoria Electrical Substation.
The Victoria substation converts electricity from higher voltage transmission power lines to lower voltages that can then be safely redistributed to homes and businesses in the area. This conversion is done using a transformer, and containment pits are intended to contain oil from the transformer in the event of a spill, leak, or rupture. The pits were constructed with concrete and a spray-on liner filled with insulated rock (insulated rock prevents the transmission of electricity).
