Ritchie Market

Ritchie Market is a multi-use commercial building featuring trendy local businesses in a shared, collaborative space. Its walkability and bike-friendly amenities make this development a favourite neighbourhood destination in south Edmonton.

Along with its popular tenants, Ritchie Market features a large outdoor patio, plenty of bike stalls, and an exterior stainless steel structure to grow hops for the brewery. The building is a combination of brick, concrete, wood, steel and corrugated metals, with exposed mechanical and electrical features.

Significantly, Ritchie Market is also home to Biera, the neighbourhood’s favorite brewpub. Biera combines both a brewery and a restaurant in a rich industrial-feel environment. Biera’s restaurant services are supported with a full commercial kitchen, including a unique charcoal grill which required additional exhaust and makeup air units.

Biera’s brewing facilities were designed to operate independently of the brewpub space; this included the brewhouse, milling, and fermentation areas as well as all brewery piping, water filtration systems, and water supply. This independent operation paradigm allowed commissioning, test runs, and ultimately brewing, so that all was ready and operational for the brewpub opening. A staggered opening meant that the public spaces, restaurant, and commercial kitchen could be completed while the brewery was already operational.
