South Edmonton Common (SEC) is one of the largest open-air retail developments in North America, spread over 320 acres and containing 2.3 million sq ft of retail dining, shopping, and entertainment space.
As the Primary Construction Manager at SEC, Carlson built more than 70% of the CRU buildings, including those in the Fashion District centre, along with many of the pad sites. Anchor tenants for which Carlson performed work included Marshalls, Home Outfitters, Old Navy, Ashley Homestore, and the Keg restaurant.
Construction consisted of conventional steel buildings with hard- and soft-wall finishes including curtain-wall glazing and specific architectural features. Some structures were constructed solely as base building site developments, while others were completely fitted-out. Additional site activities encompassed landscaping and paving.
