Students Union Building, University of Alberta

Carlson Construction has conducted multiple projects for the Students’ Union Building (SUB) on the University of Alberta campus. During this major renovation/addition project, the lower portion of the building underwent significant alterations including mass excavation and foundation work, as well as the renovation of three floors in the building’s tower. The project included tenant improvements in offices, meeting rooms, and retail spaces. The addition included a complex multilevel frameless spider glass glazing system for the atrium. Scheduling and safety factors were extremely important in this congested area, and close consideration was given to the shifting requirements of building access. This project was completed while public access remained open 24/7 to the SUB and surrounding buildings.
