Casino Dene is a casino located in Cold Lake, Alberta, owned by Cold Lake First Nation. The casino features more than 250 games including slots, VLTs and table games, in addition to the Aurora Bar and Lounge.
Initially, the renovation project was to address the building’s significant slab heaving issues. The scope of work included the removal and installation of a new structural slab, new perimeter walls, new finishes, and the overhaul of mechanical and electrical systems. The perimeter of the building was also overhauled to alleviate future stresses on these systems.
The work was completed ahead of schedule, realizing significant cost savings. As a result, Casino Dene was able to redirect the remaining project funds to modernize the washrooms and complete major renovations to the Aurora Lounge.
The demolition and renovation the Aurora Lounge included redevelopment of the existing restaurant and conference space into a sports bar-themed area, with a bar, area for pool tables, multiple TVs and food service, with open access and flow to the casino floor.
Carlson’s experience working in occupied facilities enabled us to minimize disruption to business during construction through both projects, which included safety measures, stringent dust control measures, noise reduction and completing certain work outside of the casino’s operational hours. These measures ensured safety for workers and patrons, limited revenue impacts to the casino, and protected food and beverage areas, sensitive gaming equipment and security servers.
