Phipps McKinnon

About the Project

Carlson Construction first built the Phipps-McKinnon Building in 1978, which has remained part of Edmonton’s downtown core since its construction. The three lower floors of the building form a sculptured podium for the twenty-storey building. The tower exterior is exposed aggregate precast panels, with bronze glazing.

More than 40 years after the building’s initial construction, Carlson returned to complete a complete a renovation of the building’s lobby, to make the space more human-centric. This included removing the front clock tower, relocating the building’s previously-obscured front entrances, and creating a more modern, welcoming space with the addition of a coffee shop.
